This colony was started by NYSPMP volunteer David Seiferth, who with his own funding erected a wooden house he made himself along with 8 plastic gourds in 2013. This colony attracted Purple Martins in its first season. Four pair fledged 16 young in 2013. The colony was monitored by Abigail Bradley, Park Intern and David Seiferth. Abigail wrote an article about her experiences which was published by the Purple Martin Conservation Association in their magazine, Purple Martin Update.

In 2014, with funding from the New York State branch of the North American Bluebird Society, a 24 unit gourd rack was added to the site. We intend to modify the plastic horizontal gourds with elbows to reduce condensation problems. The colony was monitored by David Seiferth and Celeste Morien in 2014.

Notes
2014: We had evidence of predation on the ground. We suspect that at least 9 young prematurely fledged from wet nests due to soaking rains and/or condensations problems in horizontal gourds.
